United States Senate election in North Carolina, 1960

The North Carolina United States Senate election of 1960 was held on 8 November 1960 as part of the nationwide elections to the Senate. The general election was fought between the Democratic incumbent, B. Everett Jordan, and the Republican nominee, Wilkes County attorney and 1956 Republican gubernatorial nominee〔(New York Times: Patron Dead, Town Goes on the Block (1994) )〕 Kyle Hayes. It was Jordan's first election to a full term, as he had been elected in a 1958 special election to complete the term of Kerr Scott, who had died in office. The simultaneous victories of Jordan, gubernatorial nominee Terry Sanford and presidential nominee John F. Kennedy marked the last time Democrats won all three top contests in North Carolina on the same day until 2008.
